The winner of the 2019-20 Tapestry Showcase is Bridget Lane, Second Impression
Bridget works with naturally occurring patterns. Here she has drawn out the main characteristics of an image and translated it into an alternative colour palette. By varying the size and direction of weft marks, she explores textural changes, which results in a concentrated intensity of colour, bringing out details in the image. The original pattern is now transformed and has a second life.
The Tapestry Showcase is an exhibition of small-scale tapestries by amateur and emerging artists staged by The Cordis Prizes for Tapestry. Hosted since 2015 by The Scottish Café, we are delighted to return in 2019 to their fabulous newly renovated premises. The purpose of the showcase is to encourage the work of aspiring weavers, and to give them a platform to exhibit and sell their work in a venue of national prestige.
We were delighted to receive a huge number of submissions this year and were hugely impressed by the quality. Less than a quarter of the submitted works made it to the final exhibition, and the works that were selected represent what we feel is a diverse cross section of talent in the amateur weaving community, by budding artists at the earliest stages in their careers.
Many of these wonderful works are for sale, please contact our administrator; firstname.lastname@example.org for more information or to purchase.
