The 2016 Cordis Shortlist Exhibition, the third round of the Cordis Prize, took a different format to previous years. There was a maximum size restriction, but material and process constraints were widened to encourage submissions from artists working across different disciplines. We could not be more delighted with the responses the artists came up with to this challenge!

As the shortlisted works are smaller in scale than usual, we feel that this is the perfect opportunity to instigate a touring exhibition, bringing the vibrancy and variety of the shortlisted tapestries to the rest of the country, rather than keep them to ourselves up here in the North. The tapestries will travel first to Newcastle and will be exhibited at the Biscuit Factory from 2 June – 14 July.

The shortlisted artists were Demetra Browning, Linda Green, Rachel Johnston, Louise Martin, Anna Ray, Philip Sanderson, Katharine Swailes and Patricia Taylor, and the winner of the £5000 prize was Jo Barker.
